Marjoleine Diemel of Art and Stuff (Nootdorp, The Netherlands).

Marjoleine has been making these stunning traditional style bears since 1991, working as a part-time artist.  Marjoleine originally worked in ceramics, progressed to doll-making, and proceeded to find her niche in the art of bear-making and soft sculptures.  The diversity of her background has produced a fine array of skills available at her fingertips.  Marjoleine is regarded as a pioneer artist within The Netherlands and this could not have been more apt given she has since gone on to win awards all over the world.  Whatever endeavour Marjoleine has set her mind to she has retained the beautiful distinctive style she has become synonymous with, keeping her reputation, and the keen eye of collectors, firmly fixed on her creations.

Marjoleine favours moderately sized creations throughout her collective works. In more recent years she has added to her repertoire of bears and rabbits, the skilled production of dogs, some of which are on wheels.  The bears and rabbits retain the flare of Art & Stuff which connects them but they are very different creations in their own right. The bears are overtly traditional in concept and have distinctive faces with short muzzles and delicate shading drawing your attention to the contour of their features. The rabbits are modern, have captured features of real hare’s and often have decorative buttons sewn into their design. It is common place to find keys and scarves accessorising these pieces. We are proud at Silly Bears to be an agreed UK Stockist of Marjoleine's stunning work.
