*Silly Bears Collection 2012

Silly Bears are proud to announce the coming of the New Year will bring with it the celebration of the Silly Bears Collection 2012. The collection encompasses two very dear aspects close to the heart of Silly Bears ambition. Firstly, to support the bear industry in promotion of artist collectable bears as unique in character and personality as the individuals who go in search of them. Secondly, to celebrate the tradition and simple beauty of bears as they were once known to us, embracing the roots and form of bears we so fondly remember from our own past childhood.

This year Silly Bears are dedicating their praise and attention towards Andrew-John Budds of Andrew-John Bear, a young artist of integrity and raw talent who has made a real impact on the bear artist industry in recent times. He has been prised with taking teddy bear-making to new and innovative levels so it comes as little surprise that he is the figurehead of all that is fresh at dawn in 2012.

The collection consists of five different bears, with each design being a limited edition of ten pieces; Tiny Jenkins, Poppy Pimble, Bodkin Figgs, Fergus Budds and Winnie Trumble. Each bear has been stitched with black thread to represent the 'Black Label' range which is exclusive to Silly Bears. In addition, there is also a very special, one of a kind bear, called 'Silly Old Bear 2012', a standalone character, from Andrew-John's 'Gold Label' range. The collection was styled to resemble traditional bears of the 1920's to 1960's and the inspiration was guided by the theme 'things you would find in a child's bedroom'. In this pursuit Andrew-John has created a collection that embraces a vintage heritage yet is tainted with his own contemporary flare.

Scottish Springtime 2012

From the 1st of February to the end of April Silly Bears will be launching their Spring Collections 2012. Their dedicated and loyal team of artists will be busily working throughout the winter months to create a selection of bears (and bunnies) fit for the coming season. The niche Scottish shop has chosen a theme coloured by their deep passion towards the ambiance and radiance of the Scottish Springtime. The colour palette of the collection shall mirror the natural scenery of the Scottish Highlands which are a mere stone's throw from their coastal residence.

The Scottish Shires have a deep-seated and never faltering pride in their heritage. The very basis of this extends from the unique, untouched and inherently distinctive landscape they have been bestowed. The recession of the winters' frost exposes the freshness of the spring to reveal the most breathtaking wilderness. The budding of the snowdrops, bluebells, daffodils and the scatterings of heather across the highland countryside signal the true beginning of a new year in this bonnie land. It is with this mix of tradition, distinction and beauty that Silly Bears will launch their Spring Collections to mimic this great achievement poised by nature. Julieann and staff are thrilled at the prospect of sharing this special collection with all patrons in the coming months.

Silly Bears goes to Hugglets!

With 2012 well under way it can only mean it is again time for Silly Bears to make their way to Hugglets! The Winter Bearfest 2012 will be taking place on Sunday 26th of February from 10.30am to 4pm, at Kensington Town Hall in London, England. This high profile show attracts thousands of avid and discerning collectors from all over the world to see more than 170 teddy bear related exhibitors gather under one roof. This is truly a magical experience and a real melting pot for all those who treasure being part of the teddy bear world.

For this occasion Silly Bears have selected three of their award-winning artists to showcase at this prestigious show. Each having won a TOBY award in 2011 speaks volumes to this end. The contrasting beauty and simple elegance of these three artists' creations when placed side by side is sure to provide a truly outstanding and head-turning display. So without further a-do Silly Bears would like to announce their three artists selected for Hugglets 2012 shall be - Cheryl Hutchinson of Bingle Bears, Kim Russell of Russell Bears and the venturesome Jenny Johnson of Three O'clock Bears. This is a truly magnificent collective of exquisite talent!

All three artists, Cheryl, Kim and Jenny, have been asked to create five of their finest creations to Silly Bears Hugglets theme of 'The Chocolate Box'. The furs and materials are to be rich colours and smooth textures that mimic the divine luxury of our favourite chocolate treats. The use of swirling caramel, silky cream, bold buttermilk and the deepest darkest brown of cocoa beans have every chance of making their appearance in this mixed box of delights! The artists have been asked to interpret the theme under their own direction and to be guided by their own imaginative flare. All three artists are exclusive to Silly Bears and will not be exhibiting themselves independently at the show. Bingle Bears and Russell Bears are exclusive to Silly Bears within the UK and Three O'clock Bears are exclusive to Silly Bears worldwide.

Annual Bear-Making Workshop 2012

Beatrix Harries of Beatrix Bears will be returning, by popular demand, for the third consecutive year, to host Silly Bears Annual Bear-Making Workshop. The German-born artist is no stranger to the North-Eastern Scottish shores and has been a prized asset of Silly Bears since they first opened their doors back in 2007. Over the course of the years Beatrix has had the acclaimed admiration of Silly Bears patrons and the demand of her creations has never relinquished. It is with this stature and desirability that creative minds combined and an exciting twist was placed on the Beatrix's bears experience..... why not have a Beatrix bear that you yourself could make under the guidance and craftsmanship of this skilled artist?

This has certainly proved to be one of the most rewarding ventures Silly Bears could have embarked upon, and from the success of the first workshop they have never looked back. It is to Beatrix herself that praise is directed in this venture. Her gentle nature and relaxed manner make this a treasured experience for all in her company. It may then come as no surprise that Beatrix's workshops have established their place as an integral part of Silly Bears events calendar and that all patrons are now officially welcomed to book the third year in action!

Beatrix will conduct a one day Advanced Workshop on Friday 30th of March followed by a Beginner/intermediate Workshop on Saturday 31st of March. The Advanced class will make a 12inch Polar Bear in Ivory Alpaca and the Beginner/intermediate class will make a 8inch Anime Panda in Black and Ivory Mohair. A complimentary delicious lunch and refreshments are provided on both days accompanied by a bowl of Julieann's renowned homemade tomato and roasted garlic soup. Silly Bears staff will be on hand throughout the day and will help you relax in the late afternoon with a few glasses of bucks fizz to celebrate the days' achievements.

Eastertime at Silly Bears

As Easter time approaches there is only one artist who quite literally 'Springs' to mind to front Silly Bears Easter Card 2012..... none other than 'the best rabbit maker in the world' Shelly Allison of The Rabbit Maker. Shelly needs no formal introductions at the Scottish shop, having a longstanding relationship with Silly Bears that dates back to 2007 when Julieann first approached the artist to become part of their growing vision. A perfectionist by nature, Shelly continues to strive to improve on what is already a world recognised signature look for her rabbits.

Shelly will create a family of three rabbits designed to the theme 'Scottish Springtime' to feature as the showpieces for Silly Bears Easter card. The Easter card has been well received since Silly Bears began to make a spectacle of its design and circulation.  All three rabbits will complement each other with matching tailored clothing splashed with the colour palette reminiscent of the Scottish countryside's vibrancy. The inherent beauty of the Scottish landscape is the perfect accompaniment to her spectacular work. Shelly's rabbits have always been and are set to continue to be very highly sought after collectables north of the border. She is a truly dedicated artist that pays considerable time and attention to her work which is always meticulously stitched displaying great depth, imagination and character. The family of rabbits will be available to all patrons to behold on reception of their Easter card and available for a lucky few collectors, or perhaps one single collector, to own and treasure in person!

*The Easter Card 2012 family of rabbits will be launched on our website on Friday 6th of April, 12 noon.

A Summer Garden 2012

As we feel the radiant chill of spring warm to the pleasant glow of summer Silly Bears will be eagerly awaiting the launch of their Summer Collections from the 1st of May. Their talented team of artists have embarked on a 'fruitful' venture of creating exclusive designs to the theme 'A Summer Garden'.

The collections will see a distinct transition from the light radiance of the Spring Collections to the more austere bold variety that the summer season brings. These themed designs will exude all the delicate colours of wild flowers and the bold depths of summer garden berries. The use of fresh crisp cottons and linens for clothing, and pastel shades for furs set the standard for the Summer Collection 2012 character. As always all artists have been given the chance to interpret and develop their own concept of this theme..... and this could not bring more potential variety to the collections with artists spanning not only the length of the country, but also those representing destinations all over the globe!

Silly Bears are extremely excited about this Summer Collection marking the beginning of the Scottish Summertime, a season they adore, and welcome all to come and behold the truly wonderful sight that lies in store!

A Midsummer's Day!

On Saturday the 23rd of June to mark the longest day of the calendar year and celebrate the height of summer Silly Bears shall be hosting an afternoon of Pure Indulgence at their lavishly decorated 18th Century haven in the heart of the Granite City. Scottish Summertime brings a time of great excitement in the Highlands, the countryside is alive, the cattle roam the fields and the place is buzzing with tourists trying to catch a glimpse of some of the most treasured wildernesses in the world.

It is however not only tourists that celebrate the countryside, it is also the case for the local residents and a very special occasion really shows this off in all its glory..... A Midsummer's Day! This is a very significant day in the Scottish calendar and has a history that dates back thousands of years. Scattered across the countryside are many stone circles and other ancient monuments aligned to sunrise on this famous day. In more recent years a Midsummer's Day has been recognised in Scotland to signify the dawn of another great Scottish event..... the beginning of the Highland Gatherings. As Silly Bears are never ones to shy from their Scottish heritage they have now began a tradition of their own on this dually special day and host a lavish Midsummer's Day Celebration while they themselves prepare to attend the Highland Gatherings!

The shops residence on the East Coast of Scotland has really shaped and enriched the soul of the business, and they are proud supporters of all local producers and involved in all local events whenever possible, thereby doing all they can to fly the Scottish flag. Guests will arrive to the musical mastery of the renowned Scots fiddler Paul Anderson. Paul Anderson has been named among the finest of his generation and is somewhat of a legend amongst his fiddle playing peers. He is a man of considerable reputation having personally composed over three hundred pieces and has a booking diary laden with the most prestigious of events!

The event will also give the collectors the opportunity of a 'sneak preview' of the artists hand-selected for Silly Bears Annual Artist Signing event later in the year, on Saturday the 6th of October. The five artists hand-selected for this years' event need no formal introductions, our very own - Shelly Allison, Yvonne Andrew, Andrew-John Budds, Gregory Gyllenship and Jenny Johnson. The variety and composition of this collective is sure to draw the most enthusiastic of crowds!

The afternoon is poised to be a splendid opportunity for collectors to gather mid-year and catch up before the start of the summer months. Throughout the afternoon and early evening guests will be waited on and catered for with only the finest quality produce. Amongst the favourites featured are the popular Wild Hibiscus champagne cocktails served in elegant crystal glasses, and the most scrumptious hand-dipped local strawberries beautifully displayed on silver salvers. These offerings set the scene for an afternoon of Pure Indulgence for all welcomed guests! Festivities will start at 2pm and last until 7pm..... or late evening!

*Silly Bears events are always complimentary so please contact us if you wish to be added to the guest list.

The Highland Fling!

With the summer season firmly under way and the solstice celebrated, it is now time for the next exciting event in Silly Bears calendar..... The Highland Fling! It is at this point we see Silly Bears a little out of context from their 18th Century haven with its hard wooden floors and antiqued furniture and watch them don their outdoor chic and designer wellies to take up residence in the middle of a Scottish field..... or three!

The Highland Gatherings attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each summer. The visitors aspire to become part of, and closer to, the traditional Scottish way of life. Silly Bears have the honour and privilege of permanent residence in this picturesque landscape but also revel in every opportunity to support and be part of all the local events whenever possible. It is for this reason that the shop shall, for the sixth year running, embark on their whistle-stop tour of the Scottish countryside attending several of the most prestigious Highland Gatherings across the North East of Scotland, with their picnic hamper packed to the brim to help satisfy all throughout the day's event!

The first flitting shall be to the quaint village of Aboyne set in the rural heart of Aberdeenshire. The Aboyne Highland Games will be held on Saturday 4th of August. Silly Bears look forward to the occasion with extra special zeal due to the parade of the pipe bands through the grounds, and the sense of nationalistic pride these signature instruments, bestow on all who watch on from the crowds.

Fuelled with enthusiasm, and having had a wee chance to rest, Silly Bears then match on to Royal Deeside a mere five days later. The Ballater Highland Games will he held on Thursday 9th of August amidst the beautiful scenic landscape. In an amazingly astonishing feat this show will be celebrating its 139th Anniversary! This particular show is famed for the hill race that takes place every year. Both local and professional athletes endure a gruelling and exhilarating (so we are told) run to the summit of Craig Coillach. This event is also prized for its sporadic and unofficial visit from the nations next in line, Prince Charles and Lady Camilla. They have been known to attend the games on horseback and enjoy this hidden gem of a day and help put the 'Royal' into Deeside whilst in attendance.

The end of the summer affair with the Highland Gatherings will take Silly Bears a little closer to home and place them alongside family and friends in the picturesque valley of Strathdon. The Lonach Gathering will be held on Saturday 25th of August and holds a very special place in the hearts of the staff as they end their summer tour. The Lonach Gathering is all about the continuity and the preservation of Scotland's finest and dearest traditions. Celebrating its 171st Anniversary really goes far in explanation of this commitment. Lonach is famous for its March of the Clansmen which has been a tradition upheld from its inaugural day. It is a sight to behold to look upon each Clansman pristinely dressed, family tartans blazoned, and decorated with their unique weaponry. And of course, in true Scottish style, to have heard stories of the Clansmen stopping off at various estates and castles on route for a wee dram or two...!

Grandeur, Plus Old Teds!

From the 1st of September to mid November Silly Bears will be launching their eagerly awaited Winter Collections 2012. Their exceptionally talented  and enthusiastic team of artists will be working steadily throughout the summer months to create a collection more magnificent than most. This year the theme of 'Grandeur' and the much loved theme of 'Old Teds' shall encompass all that is luxurious, timeless and traditional at the most decadent time of year at the niche Scottish shop.

The richness of the winter colour palette will encompass deep purples to burgundy reds and buttermilk creams to chocolate browns. The collection will exude pure luxury and depth of character. This will be blazoned across the collection with impassioned use of velvets and silks dominating the clothing scene: from flowing night-gowns, to flamboyant cravats, refined waistcoats and embellished collars.

Old Teds form the foundations of the bear industry and allow us to regale in the days gone past. They hark back to much loved bears we so fondly remember from our own past childhood. It is the traditional and simple beauty of these bears that attract the attention of all. As a result the theme of  'Old Teds' has been firmly established as an all time favourite at Silly Bears and notorious for selling out within days of being launched.

Annual Artist Signing Event 2012

As autumn establishes its authority on the North East Coast it can mean only one thing..... that Silly Bears are ready to celebrate another year in business. October is a very special time of year for the Scottish shop having first warmly opened their doors to all, a remarkable five years ago! The celebration of this event has never gone a miss and has become Silly Bears most prised calendar date in the diary, the Annual Artist Signing Event. On this day they shall look to their 5th Anniversary and raise a champagne glass to the year gone past on Saturday the 6th of October, from 2pm to 7pm.

The five artists hand-selected for this years' annual event need no formal introductions, our very own Shelly Allison, Yvonne Andrew, Gregory Gyllenship, Jenny Johnson and Andrew-John Budds. The variety and composition of this collective is sure to draw the most enthusiastic of crowds! Each artist has been asked to design ten creations for the occasion. As this years' spectacle the theme that has been embraced is one of etiquette, refinement and the adornment of Grandeur.  Shelly, Yvonne, Gregory and Jenny will centre their designs with grandiose as guidance while still remaining true to their own signature flare in the creation of the collections. Andrew-John will create the Silly Bears Collection for 2013 with the treasured Old Teds theme as his influence.

The launch of Silly Bears Collection for 2013 is also an important aspect of the day. Silly Bears unbridled support for the bear artist industry continues without resolution. Silly Bears ethos is that of enriching and encouraging collections of hand-made bears by standalone artists, providing depth and variety in the teddy bear industry. This quality and individuality that only comes from the mastery of those who hand stitch every last detail into their work.

Among the regular faces will be the much beloved imparter of wisdom on all things teddy bear, Deirdre Howie. Deirdre enriches the Silly Bears experience by sharing her wealth of knowledge which she has accrued through the accumulation of her own personal collection of more than two thousand bears. Deirdre will be on hand to offer free valuations to all guests who bring along any cherished bears they would like to discuss.

The event will be opened at 2pm by Silly Bears resident piper Sandy Rogers, keeping with tradition playing 'Flower of Scotland'. Throughout the afternoon and early evening, guests will be welcomed by Silly Bears attentive staff serving a variety of elegant champagne cocktails and boasting silver salvers brimmed with canapes prepared from the finest local Scottish produce.

*Silly Bears events are always complimentary so please contact us if you wish to be added to the guest list.

The event will be held in their lavish 18th Century haven decorated with all their Christmas finery. The traditionally furnished enclave is a truly magical spectacle and harks back to the Christmas pictures of Edwardian splendour. Guests will be heralded into the premises to the sweet sounds of the bagpipes by resident piper Sandy Rogers. Throughout the afternoon, guests will be served luxury handmade petite four chocolates and white chocolate fudge on silver salvers by Silly Bears attentive staff. In addition to the above event Silly Bears would like to enrich the festive experience to all patrons the adornment of a very special Christmas keepsake..... It has become a Silly Bears tradition to invite one of their artists to create a showpiece to front their Christmas card. These cards are becoming as much an admired collectable as the creations themselves! This year pride of place has been bestowed upon Shelly Allison of The Rabbit Maker to create the iconic feature. There is nothing surprising about this choice of artist as Shelly has a longstanding relationship with Silly Bears that dates back to 2007. Shelly's iconic Christmas piece is sure to be a work of great craftsmanship for this very special occasion. As an artist of great integrity and one of meticulous perfection the creation of a standalone feature rabbit is a truly exciting prospect that the staff at Silly Bears are waiting to warmly welcome into their haven. Shelly continues to be a strong favourite and leading member of Silly Bears artistic team and they could not be more proud to celebrate this fact at such a joyous time of year!
