In 1915, another manufacturer to introduce teddy bears was The Chad Valley Co. Ltd. The company had begun some ninety-five years earlier as a bookbinder and printer. Chad Valley went on to be one of the most successful teddy bear manufacturers of the interwar years, which managed by careful expansion to create a range of bears for all tastes and budgets.

After the war, Chad Valley continued to prosper and over the next two decades purchased a further six companies, including H.G. Stone & Co. Ltd producers of Chiltern toys, in 1967. Unfortunately Chad Valley stretched itself too far, and in 1978 was taken over by Palitoy. The name Chad Valley was acquired by Woolworths Plc, in 1988 and soft toy production moved to the Far East. Woolworths Plc ceased trading in January 2009.
