Berg Spielwaren Tiere mit Herz GmbH, was established in 1946. It was the war that prompted another European country to start manufacturing teddy bears. Austria, united with Germany by the Anschluss of March 1938, was occupied by the Allies immediately after World War II, and it was in these conditions of defeat that the country's most famous teddy bear manufacturer, emerged.

The family began making teddy bears using Army surplus materials - their bodies were made from old Army blankets, with uniform buttons for their eyes and boxes of pebbles for their voice-boxes. As soon as more appropriate materials became available, such as mohair and glass eyes, the products improved and business expanded enormously. Berg is Austria's largest teddy bear manufacturers and they are still in production today.
